5 Important Factors That May Lead To An Unsuccessful Interview

There are a number of factors that contribute to an unsuccessful interview, and it’s not hard to beat yourself up about it. However, the fates of interviews are not entirely in your hands, as it could be that your spot was filled up internally, or some other internal factors. However, if recruiters are highly interested in you, they will be flexible enough to overlook the minor mistakes.

Here is a list of factors that may cause that job to slip from your hands, that you can definitely work on for the next one –

Not doing your homework

The first red flag for any interviewer is when the candidate has not spent enough time researching about the company or the position you’ve applied for. Remember, companies are not looking for next-level experts or someone who knows the company like their ABCs. Just a brief overview of the company, what they do, and what your job profile would entail.

Tardiness

Your ‘interview’ begins the minute you arrive for it. This means that your interviewer is keeping a strong eye on your punctuality. Arriving late sends across a wrong signal to your potential bosses, because after all, you need to always be on time for work

Dressing inappropriately

First impressions are last impression, and the same holds true when you’re going for a job interview. No matter how casual the dress code at the organisation may be, you need to be formally dressed when you walk in for the very first time. At the same time, stay away from clothes that are too short, or too revealing.

Your responses weren’t enticing

It is not uncommon for your nerves to get the better of you during any job interview, and that will often translate into the way you respond. Practice your responses by talking to a friend, or even to a mirror, so that you are clear on what your responses might be like. At the same time, don’t be overconfident, as boisterousness is extremely off-putting.

You showed lack of interest

This takes us back to the first point – not being prepared. Unpreparedness also demonstrates a lack of interest in the organisation and your profile, as you didn’t take time out to research on the same. You also need to be able to sell yourself well, and comprehensively list down all your accomplishments so far. Target companies that align with your career goals, because your passion will automatically come across.
