Aapki Maggi- Taste bhi, Lead bhi?

You may have to say goodbye to your favorite 2-minute snack,Maggi.

The Lucknow Food Safety and Drug Administration has written to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) asking to cancel the licence for Maggi. The reason being that Maggi was found to contain monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead over the permissible limit. Short term side effects of MSG and lead include nausea, headaches, burning sensation of the mouth and neck and upset stomach, and there can be long term effects on the nervous system. While testing for permissible ingredients at Kolkata’s referral laboratory, a few samples of Maggi collected in Uttar Pradesh was found to contain 17 parts per million of lead, crossing the permissible limit of mere 0.01 parts per million of lead. Nestle denied the allegations saying that they don’t add MSG to the product at all. At the time of publishing, Maggi was ordered by food inspectors to recall a certain batch of Maggi, where high levels of lead were found, which prove to be dangerous to human health.
