Artificial Intelligence And The Need To Change The Education System

It is no secret that there is an urgent need for reforms in the Indian education system. Due to stressful exams and lengthy syllabi, students feel the need to take unethical steps to get their way and pass. Lately, the education system in the West is also being questioned because of the introduction of Artificial Intelligence. On the 30th of November 2022, when ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence language model, was introduced to the public, it was clear that the future would be AI, as various apps of a similar kind were also launched. Overjoyed with the development it meant for science and technology, the world ignored the consequences of these platforms.

Along with it, artificial intelligence brought a variety of threats, privacy concerns and security threats are only a few. However, one such deep-rooted threat is being imposed on the education system of high school and university students. AI tools can give an entire original thesis to any topic asked, this feature is widely being used by students to get through their assignments. Students simply type in their topic and within seconds they have a tailored essay ready to present to their professors in class. In foreign nations especially outside of Asia, the evaluation of a topic taught by a teacher in a classroom is done by asking the students to write an essay on the same under some given word limit, students previously used to spend hours researching that topic and finding out more than what was taught, this way when a student finished writing an essay about that topic he/she would have thorough knowledge of what was taught, but since various tools of artificial intelligence can present a topic in seconds, students barely have to put in any effort to pass their classes.

High school and university students are looking at these tools as a blessing, but what they fail to see is the long-term injury this proposes to their careers. Artificial intelligence is turning the brains of fresh young minds into empty skulls. Teachers and professors are unable to figure this out as AI is capable of providing different answers to the same question. It is able to do that because it studies the pattern and relationships from a human-written text. AI is said to take up most of the employment opportunities for humans and that makes sense because if a student is copying assignments from the AI then that knowledge goes right past him and as a robot with artificial human capabilities, AI knows the past and the present will understand the trends of the future to seize it.

If all this is to stop and if we want to preserve humankind from the attack of artificial intelligence, a lot of things will have to change, first would be to level up the current status of cyber security and next would be to bring a revolution in the worldwide education policy. The leaders of the world need to assign a uniform education policy to prevent the situation from getting out of hand, if that doesn’t seem possible then the most basic rule to be brought should be that these apps of artificial intelligence should have an age limit so that students cannot operate it.

This seems like a small problem right now, but imagine how funny it would be when robots invented by humans would take up all the jobs created for humans!
