5 Best Types of Fabrics to Wear in the Summer

Summer is a real struggle, especially if you live in a country where the heat dominates most of the seasons. There’s nothing worse than feeling sweaty and sticky all day, every day. Which is why it is important to understand what types of clothes will provide relief from the sweltering heat. You may have heard of a million fabrics in the world, but how well do you know which one of them works best for your climate?

Here’s some of the most breathable, airy, and lightweight fabrics that you should stock up on, as we transition to the sunny days.

Cotton

Cotton is probably the most versatile fabric here is, and can be worn at any given time of the year. However, they’re the most ideal during summers. By nature, cotton is soft, lightweight, and absorbs sweat, making it faster for heat to escape from your body. Available in all colours, fits, styles, and patterns, you’ll be sure to find one to suit your summery needs. However, beware of moisture stains that tend to show up on lighter colours.

Silk Georgette

You can use it to glam up a basic t-shirt or dress, and if you’re feeling particularly lazy, you can throw on a classic kimono and you’re good to go. A silk georgette kimono can also be used on a day at the beach as you bask in the sun in all its glory

Linen

Linen is made from fibres of the flax plant, and is famous for the coolness and freshness it provides, which is an absolute necessity in the scorching heat. The fact that it is made from natural fibres means that it allows for maximum breathability. The best form of linen fabrics are in linen pants, which are casual, comfortable, and equally stylish. You can also pair it with a formal top or blouse to make it suitable for work wear.

Chambray fabric is a lot like denim, except that it is a lot lighter. So you may want to think twice before scratching denims off your summer wardrobe. Chambray often comes in a higher thread count, which means it’s woven finer and is a more breathable fabric. This is definitely the best substitute there is for denim.

Rayon was invented as a cheaper alternative to silk, and as a result of its delicate fibres, it is more breathable than most summer fibres. You’ll often find it in sportswear and summer dresses. However, the only disadvantage is that it does not absorb much moisture, and is more suited to dry heat.
