Faces in the Water

Author: Ranjit Lal

The novel is about young Gurmi Diwanchand, whose family boasts of having only sons. It is only when he is asked to spend time on their farmhouse that he peeps into the well and discovers, to his horror, the ghosts of his sisters and cousins. It is a disturbing, yet sensitively told tale about the horrors of female infanticide that plague Indian society. Yet, it is a story well told and it is impossible to put the book down. – By Jaya B Rose – Rs – 199
