Fashion for the Festive Season

Fashion designer Arpita Mehta provides some styling tips on dressing for the upcoming festive months and reveals the current hot trends in ethnic fashion

Diwali dress-up
If you are going for a Diwali party, you could wear a stylised cocktail sari in deep winter colours like violet, burgundy or midnight blue or wear a fun crop choli and sharara in bright happy colours like orange, mang and sindhoori.

Solemn worship
If one is attending a pooja, a simple Lucknowi suit or a Chanderi silk anarkali in pastel colours would be apt.

Wedding revelry
If one is attending a wedding, it is always good to have a few light outfits and few heavy outfits in their wardrobe. For the mehendi, I would suggest a mirror-work yoke anarkali in colours such as yellow, lime green pink. For the sangeet or cocktail event, a light lehenga with a lot of ghera, a heavily embellished choli and a pretty dupatta would work fabulously.
As for the wedding itself, a pretty silk Benarasi sari in red or royal blue teamed with an offset quilted blouse would not only look interesting but also add an element of surprise to the ethnic look.
