Indian Team For Women’s ICC T20 World Cup Finalised. Harmanpreet Kaur To Lead

The Women’s ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on February 21 in Australia and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member Indian women’s squad. 

The women’s Indian team though remains the same, has a new addition, Richa Ghosh. She is the new face who is a batswoman from Bengal. She has won laurels for her performance in the recent women’s Challenger Trophy in which she scored 36 off 26 balls with four boundaries and a six in one of the matches. Shafali Verma, another team member, a 15-year-old from Haryana will also be playing her first global meet after demonstrating stellar performance at an international level during her first season. The Women’s team will play under the captainship of Harmanpreet Kaur. 

For this tournament, there are two groups. India belongs to group A which also includes Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Group B has South Africa, England, West Indies, Thailand and Pakistan. 

In its first match on 21st February, India will play with the host, Australia at Sydney Showground Stadium. This match is also the opening match of the tournament of Women’s ICC T20 World Cup. 

On the same day when it announced the team for the Women’s ICC T20 World Cup, the BCCI also announced a 16-member women’s team for a tri-series in Australia. Under this team, Nuzhat Parveen has been added as the 16th member. This tournament begins on the 31st of January.

The team for Women’s ICC T20 World Cup is as follows: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodriguez, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Veda Krishnamurthy, Richa Ghosh, Tania Bhatia, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav, Rajeshwari Gaikwad, Shikha Pandey, Pooja Vastrakar, Arundhati Reddy.
