1. Radio classes to be held for students of grade 1-8 in Odisha

The Odisha government will conduct the “Radio Pathshala” programme regularly from September 28th. There will be two classes a day. These audios will also be available on DIKSHA, the central government’s online platform. 

2. DU to promote intermediate students with backlog

Delhi university will promote its students to the next semester, however they will have to attempt the examination whenever it is held. Students will be able to carry forward the subjects they have failed and will be promoted next year. This is only applicable to the current year due to the ongoing pandemic. 

3. 70 hot springs in Uttarakhand have potential to generate electricity

Scientists from Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology have identified more than 70 hot springs that have potential to generate electricity in Uttarakhand. This geo-thermal energy can be used for producing electricity for the next twenty years. This method is sure to reduce CO2 emissions. 

4. All tourist destinations to be opened in Odisha from October

All health precautions have been taken amidst the pandemic for the reopening of tourist spots in Odisha after about six months. This was announced by Odisha’s Tourism Minister, Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi on the occasion of World Tourism Day. No specific date has been mentioned for the same.

5. First-ever India – Maldives cargo ferry arrives in Kulhudhuffushi City

The first ever Indian Cargo vessel reached Kulhudhuffushi in Maldives. A virtual event was conducted to receive this vessel. The service is expected to cut down costs for consumers and strengthen bilateral trade. The vessel contains goods like kitchen equipment, food and garments. 

6. Samsung introduces Galaxy S20 in a variety of colors

Samsung introduced the brand new Galaxy S20 in six different shades in 4G and 5G models. It can be pre-ordered and it will be available in markets from October 2.

7. Maharashtra bans the sale of loose cigarettes

Single loose cigarettes do not have a precautionary health warning and consumers will be now required to buy the entire packet. However, some consumers and sellers stated that this will not deter the consumption and people might be tempted to smoke more. 

8. NMCG hosts its sixth meeting to review Clean Ganga Mission

The National Mission for Clean Ganga hosted its sixth meeting on Friday. It is focusing on solid- liquid waste management, afforestation and conservation of wetlands. 

9. Sanjay Gandhi National Park gets 800 acres of Aarey forest now

SGNP is getting expanded and will get 800 acres of Aarey forest. The total area of the National Park will now rise to 106 sq km. Animals will have more space now. Aarey is a home to around 40 leopards. 

10. G-Meet will limit calls to 60 minutes from September 30th

Free users will lose some of the G-meet features such as unlimited video calls and accommodation of 250 participants. This had been announced in April itself. Businesses will still be allowed to hold meetings with upto 100 people and no time limit.
