1. Exam schedule of NEET Super Specialty 2020 released, registration begins today

On Sunday the National Board of Examination released the schedule for NEET  (the  National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for admission to the Super Specialty on its website. NEET-SS 2020 will be conducted on September 15, 2020, through computers. Interested candidates can register online at natboard.edu.in.

2. Moradabad students tie rakhis on trees with ‘Save Environment’ messages

Students in Moradabad have celebrated Rakshabandhan 2020 by tying rakhis on trees. The rakhis were littered with messages like “Save Environment” and “Save Trees, Save Lives”. The motto behind this was to create awareness about the value of the environment. 

3. Serum Institute receives green signal for human trials of Oxford vaccine

India’s apex drug regulatory body has given a green signal to the Serum Institute of India. It will now start conducting large scale vaccine trials of Oxford’s Covid-19 vaccine. This is a significant moment, as it pushes India ahead in the race for a Covid-19 vaccine.

4. Hanumangarhi temple begins sanitization process ahead of PM Modi’s visit on August 5

Before laying the foundation stone for the construction of the Ram Janmabhoomi site, PM Modi is to first offer his prayers at Hanuman Garhi Temple. The temple authority began the sanitation mission before the arrival of the Prime Minister. There will be a three-day Vedic ritual to be conducted at the site beginning from August 3. 

5. SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule successfully lands NASA astronauts back on Earth

NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley return to earth after a two-month-long space journey on SpaceX’s Dragon Crew capsule. The capsule splashed at the Gulf of Mexico at 2:48 PM ET. Boats were immediately sent to receive them. This is a huge success for SpaceX as it has shown that their capsule is safe for space travel. 

6. TikTok owner blames Facebook of ‘plagiarism and smears’

The Chinese company TikTok’s owner ByteDance has accused Facebook of ‘plagiarism and smears’. The comments were made by the company on Sunday via its official account on Jinri Toutiao. However, Facebook has provided no comment on the situation. The company has also said that it has faced ‘complex and unimaginable difficulties’ for being a global company.

7. Steve Jobs signed magazine cover sells for ₹12.46 lakh

A Fortune magazine of October 1989 with late Steve Jobs signature was recently sold for $16,683 or 12.4 Lakh rupees. It was auctioned by Nate D Sanders on the 30th of July with the minimum bar of biding being $11,000. Previously Steve Jobs’ signature had fetched a hefty amount of more than $47,000.

8. Former leader of Samajwadi Party Amar Singh cremated in Delhi

Late Rajya Sabha MP and Ex-leader of Samajwadi Party was cremated at the Chhatarpur crematorium in Delhi. The last rites were conducted by his two daughters at 11:30 AM. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Jyotiraditrya Scindia and Jaya Prada all lent their tribute at the Chhatarpur farmhouse.

9. South Africa minister: Number of poached rhinos down half in six months

The pandemic has positively affected the population of Rhinos in South Africa. The restrictions imposed by the virus has altered the killings of rhinos by poachers to fall at 53%. The nationwide lockdown severely affected international smuggling rings. 

10. BMC to now withholds Rs. 300 Cr of its financial aid to BEST

With a drastic dip in the revenue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to cut back on Rs 300 crore. Of the Rs, 1500 crore set to be given to BEST so far only Rs 500 crore has been given. Due to the pandemic, the civic body itself has incurred a loss of Rs 4000 crore.
