Police bust gang selling fake mark sheets degrees

The Delhi Police have managed to catch hold of, and expose a gang running 27 fake education websites that provide fake class 10, 12, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as mark sheets.

Three suspects by the name of Pankaj Arora, Pawiter Singh, and Gopal Krishnan have been arrested. They would make forged mark sheets and degrees for students without even enrolling in universities, and have managed to sell 40,000 of the same.
According to the Indian Express, the police were tipped-off about the gang after the concerned person filed a complaint. “The complainant was asked by Pankaj Arora to give him Rs 1,31,000 for the admission and examination fees for the complainant and seven of his friends. However, after some days Arora provided them with class 10 mark sheets, migration certificates and transfer certificates from the Board of Secondary Education through a post,” DCP Kumar said.

The complainant then tried to apply for a passport in his hometown of Sikar, Rajasthan where the regional passport office had denied the passport, claiming that his class 10 certificates were not genuine.

“They accused have sold several educational qualification certificates to thousands of people. They used to get these clients using advertisements in local newspapers. The fake websites are so convincing that the victims cannot tell the difference,” the officer added.

The rates for obtaining the fake mark sheets and degrees were Rs 10,000 for Class 10,  Rs 20,000 for class 12, Rs 50,000 for undergraduate courses and   Rs 1,00,000 for professional courses.

Students with the fake degrees have even landed jobs in the private sector.
