Sabyasachi’s Celebration Of 25 Years With A Royal Fashion Show

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, a well-known designer grandly celebrated 25 years of his presence in the fashion industry on January 25, 2025, at the Jio Convention Centre the celebration was studded with the dazzling ramp walk by celebrities. The event space was transformed to resemble the impressive interiors of one of his museum-like stores to give a sense of scale, consider his 30,000-square-foot Mumbai flagship, which boasts over 100 chandeliers, nearly 300 rugs, 3,000 books, and at least 150 words of art, which serve as an impressive backdrop to the colourful ready-to-wear, bridal gowns, jewels, and accessories that fill the four-story space.

The centre was full of the party surroundings including a stately table stretching the length of the venue that overflowed with cakes, pastries, fruits, and charcuterie. Waiters dressed in pink turbans passed small plates of kebabs and tikkas to ensure everyone’s champagne flutes were brimming with Dom Pérignon. At around 10 P.M., attendees, including Celebrities such as Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday, Bipasha Basu, Aditi Rao Hydari, Siddharth, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sharvari and many others turned up the glamour quotient as they arrived for the event and members of India’s famed Ambani family—all dressed in “strictly black” per the invitation’s instructions—filed into an adjacent area for the main event: a fashion show of epic proportions.

Deepika Padukone with her Mesmerizing walk

Deepika Padukone made a comeback with her stunning walk and look that confused the audience and compared her with the legendary actress Rekha. The actress who welcomed baby girl Dua with her husband Ranveer Singh in September 2024 is back on the ramp. The actress made her stunning return to the runway by opening the 25th anniversary celebration of Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s eponymous brand Sabyasachi. The event opened with Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, who stole the show and heart of the audience at that time with her striking presence and graced the runway in a monochromatic white ensemble that exuded elegance and refinement.

The meticulously styled look featured a tailored pant, a sleek top, and a flowing trench coat, creating a seamless blend of structure and fluidity. Adding to the opulence were exquisite layered necklaces, including a statement ruby-and-diamond choker and a striking cross pendant.

Alia Bhatt in a Black Saree

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt grabbed the eyeballs in a black sari at designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s 25-year celebration runway show. She looked regal in her black sari and embellished blouse with her hair in a chic bun and accessorised with statement earrings at the event also seen cheering Deepika Padukone and capturing her walk in the phone at the event which showed a sweet gesture by her.

The OG Queen of unconventional glamour

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja just brought her fashion A-game to Sabyasachi’s showcase. Sonam’s Sabyasachi look was all about drama, drama and more drama. Embracing the dress code ‘Strictly Black’. Sonam’s three-piece couture ensemble featured a sequin pencil skirt, a sleeveless satin slip blouse and a voluminous feather jacket. Looking straight out of an international editorial shoot, Sonam was styled by a celebrity fashion stylist and her sister, Rhea Kapoor. Each element styled on Sonam complemented her personality. The shimmery sequin detailing on the skirt and the inside of the jacket added sparkle to her look. The surface texturing of the jacket adorned with fabric and feather detailing was the dramatic couture we all crave.

The show ended with 90s supermodel Christy Turlington in a fairly basic outfit of a sweater with baggy trousers adorned with a multitude of jewels. Other iconic models like Laxmi Menon, Indrani Dasgupta Paul, Sheetal Malhar and Carol Gracias’ presence infused the runway with a sense of nostalgia that the designer is known for.

If we look into the accessories recently, the designer has been relies heavily on high jewellery as the accessories always the protagonist of the show, amplifying the drama in every look from geek-chic glasses and oversized bows to floral headbands, and neck scarves, sometimes all in one look. Menswear looks featured layered neckpieces, sleek ties, and structured leather bags—from Bengal tiger-adorned slings to oversized totes. Printed caps and furry headgear made a bold statement, reaffirming the designer’s knack of turning accessories into statement pieces.

Lastly, The collection pointed at the direction the designer sees his brand going in the future, which is to cement his place as a global luxury powerhouse by redefining the idea of “Indian couture” for the world. This was evident with the collection focusing predominantly on ready-to-wear separates, accessories and leather goods. With a strong focus on Western markets, Sabyasachi is steadily establishing his place in the global luxury landscape, positioning “made-in-India” couture as a powerful contender on the international stage.
